No buildings on tank beds

Construction of buildings on tank beds and reservations in the North Central Province (NCP) will be strictly prohibited in the future. No one will be allowed to flout this ban however powerful he or she may be, said NCP Chief Minister S M Ranjith Samarakoon.

The Chief Minister announced this addressing a meeting of the Anuradhapura district Co-ordinating Committee held at the District Secretariat recently.

He said many constructions had come up damaging tank beds and reservations in the past.

Among them are hotels, tourist resorts and quarters for public servants. These constructions had taken place from the British period up to the period of the previous North Central Provincial Council.
