Jaffna Int'l Trade Fair begins today

With the end of the harvest festival, Thai Pongal, The Jaffna
International Trade Fair (JITF) will be held for the fourth consecutive
year from January 18-20, 2013 at the Durayappah Stadium, Jaffna. It will
attract business people, traders, entrepreneurs and the general public
of the Northern peninsula, with the primary incentive of assisting
business units of various industries to gain more spectrum in achieving
potential for future investments.
The trade fair is expected to hold stalls from both, local and
international entities. The fair was organized in partnership with the
Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development,
Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Federation of Chambers of Commerce
and Industry of Sri Lanka, Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Jaffna,
the Consulate General of India in Jaffna, Jaffna Municipal Council and
Sri Lanka Convention Bureau.
This has been long considered and a re-awakening point for the
Northern region, particularly after the end of the three decades war.
With the inception of the trade fair four years ago, the northern
peninsula has experienced a major boost in investment and infrastructure
developments. The fair is a much looked forward event by the people of
the north, traders and potential investors from both, locally and
globally.
Last years fair was considered a major success, with over 50,000 keen
visitors attending the event and such an event in the northern part of
the country is a great opportunity to observe the various developing
facets of industries, acquire business contacts, invite potential
investors and stakeholders and customers. |
