Granny who ran abortion clinic granted bail

A 77-year-old woman who operated an illegal abortion clinic was released on bail by the Homagama Magistrate’s Court. The suspected is suffering from an infirmity in her knee following an operation after an accident. The magistrate considering this and her age ordered her release on bail although the case against her will be heard at a future date.

The suspect ran the abortion clinic in her house in Meegoda, Padukka.

Padukka Police who raided the place seized instruments used for vaccines and medicine from her possession.

Four other families, with two pregnant women, living in her house on rent were also questioned by the Police . Investigations are continuing.
