An exhilarating camp experience

Lyceum first students camp programme :

Lyceum International School, Nugegoda enthusiastically organized a camp for Grade six students recently at the school premises from 5.30 am to 8 pm.

The aim of this programme was to take the students away from the routine classroom environment and provide them with an exciting experience of camping which would give them an opportunity of fun outdoor learning about team spirit and tolerance.

Over 200 enthusiastic students participated in this programme where, at the onset, the participants were divided into eight groups under the theme “Jungle” namely, Blue, Gloria, Tarzan, Zimba, Robin Hood etc.

Students tried their hands at cooking their own breakfast and lunch with rice, jak and different other curries which turned out to be a great success and fun. Next they participated in the opening rally with the procedure of the day and games to build up team spirit.

Then the participants were given the opportunity to use the school's brand new playground “the Niketron – the ground of victory” where they took part in an activity called the “Skill-O-Rama” which involved in a lot physical activities such as climbing, jumping and running.

Students also learnt many new things like the tie knot, time management skills and fixing pipes and showers. They also took part in many enjoyable games including a fancy dress parade and constructing a tower.

The most colorful event of the day was the campfire, which was built in the school premises and where the parents were also invited to join in. Like stars descending from the sky, children gathered round the fire with candles in their hands. Perched in the tree house near the school grounds, a scout gave life to a flute which was accompanied by the beautiful folk songs sung by a couple of students.

All this live activity in the silent dark night turned the school premises into a heaven on earth. When the flames of the campfire made the environment ablaze, the students and parents enjoyed scout yells and sing songs accompanied by a talent show of the groups.

The highlight of the evening was the awards ceremony held to appreciate the students. This exhilarating camp experience turned a new page of the history of Lyceum International School adding more colour to an already colourful picture.

The people who planted the seed of the camp, Mohan Lal Grero and Kumari Grero – the parents of the school were behind the children throughout the day enjoying and joining in the fun, much to the appreciation of the parents.
