The District Director of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Domingo
George with his officials seized Rs 600,000 worth illegal fishing nets
at the Soruwamunai lagoon area in the Batticaloa district recently.
Fishing boats, throw-nets, drag-nets, nylon-nets, triangle-nets and
disco-nets were seized from Thanambaveli, Pankudaveli, Puyalaveli,
Mylambaveli, Arumugathankudiyeruppu, Eravur, Mahilavedduwan,
Naripulthoddam and Thannamunai. Police are investigating to catch the
owners of these nets.
