Appoint acting CJ - NFF
Ishara Mudugamuwa
The National Freedom Front (NFF) requested President Mahinda
Rajapaksa to appoint an acting Chief Justice to bring more stability to
the country under the prevailing situation.
Addressing the media at the NFF office, Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister and NFF Leader Wimal
Weerawansa said the Supreme Court has informed the Court of Appeal that
the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) has no legal power or authority
to find a judge guilty because Standing Order 78(A) is not law.
“For the first time in history, the Chief Justice has tried to create
a conflict between the Judiciary and Parliament. Earlier, we signalled
that Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake is trying to show the international
community that the government is trying to get rid of the CJ and the Sri
Lanka cannot do an independent investigation on war crimes. Through this
she is trying to emphasise the necessity of conduct international
investigation on war crimes. Now, the CJ is trying to create a
precedence for that.” the minister said. |
