Twelve hour water cut today
Water supply will be interrupted for 12 hours today from 8 am in the
following areas, the Water Supply and Drainage Ministry said yesterday.
All by roads and lanes in Maha Vidyala Mawatha, George R de Silva
Mawatha, Srimath Ramanathan Mawatha Junction and K Cyril Perera Mawatha
Junction.
Gee Rasa Dehena
Gee Rasa Dehena, a musical programme organised to herald a generation
appreciative of Sinhala music will be staged tomorrow at 4 pm at the
Kotapola National School Auditorium.
Malani Fonseka will be the Chief Guest.
Gee Rasa Dehena is a concept of the President’s Parliamentary Affairs
Secretary Kumarasiri Hettige.
The collection of songs is prepared by Matara Deputy Urban
commissioner Senaka Palliyaguruge. Music instructor and violinist Oscar
Karunaratne, lyricist Wimal Dayananda, percussionist H D Jayawickrama
and music teacher H D Manoj Lanka will participate.
H D Tharanga Deshapriya will direct the music.
The Hettige Foundation plans to propagate Gee Rasa Dehana at
provincial level with schools and temples as centres.
Death of Anula Ganhewa Harishcandra
Anula Ganhewa Harischandra, widow of Pandit and scholar Late Peraliya
K. Harischandra of Mirissa passed away at the age of 82 on January 2, in
Melbourne. She was a pious Buddhist and a philanthropist. The funeral
will take place today, Saturday the 5th after Buddhist rites, at Spring
Vale Boyd Chapel Cemetery in the Eastern suburb, Melbourne.
Health camp
A free health camp organised by Dr Lakshman Weerasena in memory of
his late father Dias de Silva Weerasena who hailed from Devinuwara, will
be held at the Saranapala Vidyalaya, Tangalle Road, Devinuwara today
from 9 am to 2 pm. A team of nearly 30 doctors including visiting
doctors from UK, USA and South Africa will screen patients and disperse
drugs valued at nearly Rs 2 million to the needy in addition to
distribution of 500 spectacles to the vision impaired.
Golden jubilee
Members of the Class of 72 of Royal College is celebrating the 50th
year of entering Royal College today from 8.30 am at the Navarangahala.
Speeches will be made by the President of the Class of 72, Kithsiri
Jayawardena and Principal Upali Gunasekara. |
