Money lost
A businessman who travelled in a bus from Karainagar to Jaffna to
purchase cement and hardware goods lost Rs 300,000 he had kept in his
trouser pocket. He made a complaint to the Jaffna Police that he
suspected a pregnant woman who had sat next to him in the bus had stolen
his money. Jaffna Police are investigating.
People urge for inquiry
A comprehensive inquiry into the death of a four year old girl at
Ward No 2 Mandaithivu is urged by welfare organisations. They staged a
demonstration opposite the sub office of Nandaithivu Pradeshiya Sabha on
January 3. It is alleged that the four year old girl had been sexually
assaulted and strangled to death.
Foreign birds in Mandaithivu
Foreign birds with long legs and feathers are seen in large numbers
at Mandaithivu. People are flocking to see these rare birds thought to
be in migration. In the evenings, they fly over the sea side making a
strange noise. Every year with the change of climate, these rare birds
are found in the Jaffna islands.
One dead in clash
In a clash between two factions in Passuiyeer, a person was stabbed
to death and another was seriously injured. This incident occurred at
the Oli Visa church at Pasuaiyeer. The injured person was admitted to
the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
Budget passed
The annual budget of the Trincomalee Urban Council was unanimously
passed at the budget meeting.
It was hailed as a budget that gave priority to the needs of the
people. The meeting was presided over by Chairman K Selvarajah.
Stolen jewellery found
Rs 250,000 worth of gold jewellery stolen from a house at
Maravanpulave in Chavakachcheri was found in the backyard of the house
after two months.
The Chavakachcheri Police conducted investigations and questioned
several persons as soon as the robbery was reported. As the
investigations against certain suspects became intense, it is suspected
that the lost jewellery was thrown on to the backyard of the house. |
