Fined for trying to sell rotten potatoes

A trader of Dangedara, Galle who pleaded guilty to keeping a load of rotten potatoes unsuitable for human consumption in his shop was fined Rs. 10,000 by Galle Additional Magistrate Gunendra Kumara Munasinghe. On instructions from the Cooperatives and Internal Trade Ministry, a special team of officials of the Galle District Trade and Consumer Protection Authority carried out a raid in which they detected the load of about 1,000 kilos of rotten potatoes stored to be sold.

The Galle Additional Magistrate ordered the officials to destroy the potatoes.
