Lankan shines at int'l scrabble championship

Migara Jayasinghe, a student of Lyceum International School, Wattala
showed major colours at the Under 14 category of the 7th World Youth
Scrabble Championship (WYSC) 2012, organised by the World English
Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA) held recently in
Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Migara won 14 games out of 24 with a margin of 642 and was placed
13th at the championship.
This is his 2nd award at this prestigious tournament, with the first
being the Under 12 Championship in Manila, Philippines in 2010.
From the seven member Sri Lankan team, Lambhotharan Yoganathan and
Hayati Rassool from Lyceum, Wattala were placed 32nd and 45th.
This tournament attracted 60 players from 11 countries including the
UK, USA, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Trinidad and
Tobago, and Singapore. |
