Vegetable seeds to 15,000 families

About 15,000 families in the Minipe area of Udu Dumbara received
vegetable seeds and fruit plants recently under the fourth phase of the
government's Divi Neguma programme. The Minipe divisional secretariat
coordinated the programme and it will monitor and evaluate home
gardening carried out by these families.

Legal luminaries yesterday denounced a
law firm distributing gift vouchers worth Rs 1,000 among lawyers and the
staff of lower and upper courts, yesterday, January 2. These gift
vouchers (above) had the seal of Neelakandan and Neelakandan, the law
firm which appeared for Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake in her
recent legal battles.
Drivers beware

Police asked drivers to be vigilant while driving along the road from
Lunugala to Badulla as foggy weather is making driving dangerous.
The Namunukula mountain, a landmark in the Lunugala area and the
areas beneath are covered by mist from morning to dusk these days.
Women faint seeing leopard, dog fight
Two female tea pluckers in Patana who witnessed a leopard killing
their dog in their presence had fainted and were admitted to the
Kotagala hospital. The incident took place at the Patana Bogahawatta
estate recently. The tea pluckers had been plucking tea leaves in Field
no 5 VP in the lower division when they witnessed the incident. Other
tea pluckers had run away seeing the leopard.
Health camp
A free health camp will be held at Saranapala Vidyalaya, Tangalle
Road, Devinuwara on January 5 from 9 am to 2 pm.
Nearly 30 medical specialists including visiting Sri Lankan doctors
practicing in UK, USA and South Africa are due to attend. The camp is
the 500th in a series organised by Dr Lakshman Weerasena. The first
health camp was organised in 1991.
Drugs and equipment worth nearly Rs 2 million and 500 spectacles will
be distributed at the camp.
Talk
Dr Kosala de Silva will deliver a talk in English on 'Kabalikkara
Ahara at the meeting of the Servants of the Buddha Society tomorrow at
4.30pm at Maithree Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.
Gee Rasa Dehena
Gee Rasa Dehena, a musical programme organised to herald a generation
appreciative of Sinhala music will be staged tomorrow at 4pm at the
Kotapola National School Auditorium.
Malani Fonseka will be the Chief Guest.
Gee Rasa Dehena is a concept of the President's Parliamentary Affairs
Secretary Kumarasiri Hettige.
The collection of songs is prepared by Matara Deputy Urban
commissioner Senaka Palliyaguruge.
Music instructor and violinist Oscar Karunaratne, lyricist Wimal
Dayananda, percussionist H D Jayawickrama and music teacher H D Manoj
Lanka will participate.
H D Tharanga Deshapriya will direct the music.
The Hettige Foundation plans to propagate Gee Rasa Dehana at
provincial level with schools and temples as centres.
Interactive session
Ash Sheikh Noordeen Lemu Interactive, on overcoming challenges of
citizenship in Sri Lanka and opportunities for Muslim youths organised
by the All Ceylon Union of Muslim League Youth Front will be held on
