Law entrance examination highly flawed - Minister
Irangika Range
There is evidence that the law entrance examination conducted by the
Sri Lanka Law College for 2012 was highly flawed and there were
malpractices, Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said.
Addressing a seminar on finding solutions for the examination crisis
organised by the National Intellectual Council in Colombo yesterday,
Minister Ranawaka said the percentage of Tamil and English medium
students in the pass list was high, compared to Sinhala medium students
and it seems to be due to a malpractice like the leakage of question
papers or negligence on the part of answers by script evaluators.
He said the Law College Administration Authority must take immediate
action to rectify this situation with the assistance of experts in
universities without letting the situation getting worse. The minister
said he believed that experts in Colombo and Sri Jayawardenapura
Universities would be able to find a solution to this.
"We too analysed the results and found evidence of malpractice," he
said. "If somebody tries to say that there was no exam manipulation, it
is a lie," he said.
The minister said the leakage of question papers of public
examinations can happen in any society.
"But, we need to take stern action to prevent such malpractices".
Ranawaka said the people in the process from preparing question
papers to distributing them to candidates, should be reduced while the
number of people involved should be reduced.
"It is also necessary to use mathematical formulas to analyse the
results," he said.
