Sri Lanka's free health service has achieved many goals and reached
to the international level.

When considering certain health and social indicators, Sri Lanka has
reached to the levels of developed nations, Health Minister Maithripala
Sirisena said.
The minister was addressing a felicitation ceremony organized by the
Public Service United Nurses' Union.
Minister Sirisena pointed out that Sri Lanka's health indicators such
as maternal and infant mortality rates and life expectancy, the country
has reached to the levels of developed countries and also leading in the
region. Sri Lanka's health sector has won international recognition. The
dedication of Sri Lankan health professionals made all these possible.
Minister Sirisena praised Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera and his
Union for its dedication towards the development of the health sector
and smooth coordination with the Health Ministry, the government and top
officials.
Over 50 Acts and Amendments passed in the Parliament in the past to
bestow more power on Director General, Health services, Minister
Sirisena added.
