The Sri Lanka Freedom Students Organisation called for tough action
to be taken against undergraduates, responsible for creating chaotic
situations within universities. Sri Lanka Freedom Students Organisation
Deputy Secretary Bhanuka de Silva told the media yesterday nine
undergraduates have been hospitalised after sustaining injuries
following a clash between two factions of the Ruhuna University," he
said.
The incident had taken place at the end of a management and finance
faculty examination over political differences. Bottles, clubs and
bicycle chains had been used in the attack. The Students Federation,
which is backed by the Inter University Student Federation is alleged to
be behind this attack.
Silva said the aim of the Inter University Students' Federation is to
destroy the peaceful educational atmosphere in universities by creating
chaotic situations. The Students Federation is used as a cat's paw for
by the Inter University Students' Federation.
"The Inter University Students' Federation stands for achieving only
its personal and political aims and does not bother about the student
fraternity. The Inter University Students' Federation never utters a
single word on behalf of Sinhala students who are discriminated at the
Jaffna University," he said.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Students Organization urged the relevant
authorities to take tough action against students responsible for this
attack.
"It is the responsibility of the relevant authorities to take
adequate measures to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in universities,"
Silva said.
Meanwhile, parents of University students strongly condemn such
attacks launched by the Students Federation with the support of the
Inter University Students' Federation.
