Promotions for efficient public servants

Promotions will be granted to state sector employees who perform
their duties efficiently, Public Administration and Home Affairs
Minister W D J Seneviratne said.
The minister was addressing ministry officials prior to commencing
duties for 2013.
"We are planning to draw up a special promotions scheme to reward
government employees based on their talents, efficiency and
effectiveness. This will also eliminate complaints of favouritism," he
added
" If the government servants fail to serve the public, people tend to
criticize the Ministries. Therefore, the District Secretaries,
"Divisional Secretaries and Grama Sewa Niladhari Officers who always
have dealings with the public should perform their duties effectively
and immediate measures taken to solve the problems of the public. The
main responsibility of public servants is granting the best
opportunities for people to experience the benefits of the government
servants," he explained.
He said that all government employees should review their
performances during the last year and should themselves to serve the
public better than before. "Twenty five District Secretaries, 330
Divisional Secretaries, 14,000 Grama Sewa Niladhari Officers and a large
number of officials coming under the purview of the Public
Administration Ministry should serve the public in a responsible
manner," he said.
"There are media reports that certain government servants did not
fulfill their duties in a proper manner during the recent disaster
situation. We provided the public an opportunity to make those
complaints to the ministry but we did not receive any complaints against
government employees. We cannot stop such complaints and criticisms. We
should perform our duties according to our conscience.", the minister
said.
Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry Secretary
P.B.Abeykoon, Additional Secretaries and the whole staff of the minister
were attend the event.
