Promotions will be granted to state sector employees who perform their duties efficiently, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W D J Seneviratne said.

The minister was addressing ministry officials prior to commencing duties for 2013.

He said that all government employees should review their performances during the last year and should themselves to serve the public better than before. "Twenty five District Secretaries, 330 Divisional Secretaries, 14,000 Grama Sewa Niladhari Officers and a large number of officials coming under the purview of the Public Administration Ministry should serve the public in a responsible manner," he said.

"There are media reports that certain government servants did not fulfill their duties in a proper manner during the recent disaster situation. We provided the public an opportunity to make those complaints to the ministry but we did not receive any complaints against government employees. We cannot stop such complaints and criticisms.
