Police allowance upped by Rs 4,500

All Police personnel will have their allowance increased by Rs 4,500 from this month, Police Media Spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody said.

The allowances of police personnel had not been revised since 1988, the spokesman said adding that the increase in allowance comes after 24 years.

Provisions have been made in Budget 2013 to increase the allowances of Police personnel effective January 1.

The spokesman said a Police Constable will receive a Rs 4,500 raise with the increase ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 6,000 to all police personnel.

The allowances will be separate from the basic salary earned by an officer and will include allowances paid for duty in remote areas, cost of living and subsistence.
