Armed robbers arrested

Hasalaka Police after six months investigations, arrested three suspects in connection with an incident where money and jewellery worth over Rs 2.2 million were stolen by breaking into a house in Hasalaka.

The incident occurred in June 2012.

The suspects had hacked three persons who were at home at the time of the incident.

The Police first arrested the main suspect, a resident of Girandurukotte on December 27 and further interrogation led to the arrest of two other suspects and the recovery of part of the stolen jewellery, worth Rs 1.5 million.

The Police also seized a sword and a motorcycle used in the crime and also items they had bought with the stolen money.

Mahiyangana magistrate ordered the suspects be kept in protective custody for an identification parade.
