Educate youths on Ayurveda says thera

A knowledge of Ayurveda should be provided to the country's younger generation, Sastra Ravinda Pirivena, Gokarella, Principal Ven Durukedeniya Kusaladhamma Thera said.

Speaking at a meeting at the Ayurveda College, Polgolla, after planting medicinal plants at the herbarium recently, the thera said the people of the past joined the King in establishing herbal gardens.

"However, today there are some who cannot even identify a common medicinal plant. There are a number of Ayurveda herbs which can be easily grown in our gardens," the thera said.

He said these herbs are rich in nutrient content and medicinal value. "Our treatment is not second to Western treatment. Therefore, more educated youths should be encouraged to learn Ayurveda," he said.
