‘Govt will not allow sovereignty of the country to be affected’
Sandasen MARASINGHE
The government will not allow the international community to
destabilize the sovereignty of the country by holding Commonwealth Heads
of States to ransom during the sessions to be held in Sri Lanka or in
any other country, Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister
Nimal Siripala de Silva said yesterday.
He made this observation at special media conference held at the
Mahaweli Centre auditorium, to express the views of the SLFP on the
present political situation.
Minister De Silva stated that the sovereignty of the people and the
country was above every thing else.
He said that there were many such instances where the country had
international pressure on the sovereignty of the country. One example
had been the attempts to eliminate terrorism from the country. He said
the country had a leader who would protect the country against any
pressure.
He said that nobody could keep the Commonwealth Heads of State
sessions to be held in Sri Lanka in 2013 to press their views on us, as
Sri Lanka was a sovereign nation though small. He added that many other
countries such as the United States, United Kingdom and India, had moved
impeachment motions against their judges.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Environment Minister Anura
Priyadarshana Yapa and Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma were present at the conference.
