Tourist found dead, another saved

Hikkaduwa Police commenced an investigation into the death of a foreigner whose body was found on the bed he was sleeping in a hotel room in Hikkaduwa on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Hustor Joseph, 60, from the Czech Republic.

He arrived in Sri Lanka on December 16 on a tourist visa. The body was sent to the Karapitiya hospital morgue for a post - mortem.

Meanwhile, a German tourist was rescued by lifeguards attached to Uppuveli Police the same day, when she got into difficulties after being dragged away by currents while bathing in the Alaswatte beach. The woman aged 55 was brought to safety and given first aid by the lifeguards.
