Alternative lands would be given for people living in flood prone areas in the North Central Province, Chief Minister Ranjith Samarakon said. He said alternative lands would be provided from Katukeliyawa for flood affected people in the Anuradhapura district.

About 200 residents in low lying areas near Malwathu Oya are affected due to floods. People have expressed their consent to shift to alternative lands. Meanwhile, measures have been taken to provide alternative lands from Welikanda for people affected in Polonnaruwa.

Moreover, measures have also been taken to provide stationary and school books for flood affected students. This decision has been taken considering a request from the students in Saliyapura evacuation centre.
