Vaastu, or explaining it in brief, the Indian version of Feng shui, is seemingly being practiced widely today. What is this Vaastu energy? Vaastu energy is about honouring the five elements within one's household or habitat and in simple terms, it is the standing of energy in one’s land, workplace or household, where the inhabitant or business person can dwell harmoniously and be able to experience a successfully balanced growth in life.

Civil Engineer and Vaastu Energy Consultant M. S. Saieram, presently in Sri Lanka, stressed the significance of applying Vaastu principles into business and day to day social lives.“This is not any sort of enchantment, this is about positive energy and how we work on balancing our goals when it comes to health and wealth,” Saieram explained.

“People need to adopt Vaastu, and if practiced properly in the place of business and in day to day life, we could entertain unity and good spirit within each other. A country would prosper and achieve much in its development. Vaastu helps the balanced growth and success, while individuals could outshine in life by implementing Vaastu principles,” he said.

The ‘Pancha Boothas’ or five elements of Air, Water, Fire, Earth and Space, allow for the projection of a positive cosmic field that prevents diseases, disasters and negative vibes. The whole universe is made up of these elements and he emphasizes that we embrace and harness these five elements.

M. S. Saieram, who hails from Chennai in India, worked as a civil engineer at Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a multinational construction company, with headquarters based in India.

His outlook in life had changed after he was appointed a Project Engineer for construction projects undertaken by L&T in Puttaparthi. He came to know about Vaastu during his time there and since then, has applied Vaastu principles of energy, while also applying his scientific understanding of it.

“I researched about Vaastu energy and evaluated my engineering knowledge with these principles and I was fascinated. So I gave up my job and I am now a full-time Vaastu consultant and do still provide my services as a civil engineer through my engineering firm,” he said. He embarks on designing houses, buildings and structures with the combination of his engineering skills and his researched and applied Vaastu principles.

“Vasithal is about good living, by utilizing the polar energy from the north and the solar energy from the east, which is also about placing certain objects around us, whether it be our home or workplace, in certain locations and positions. By embracing these energies and the placement of things correctly, a dweller would acquire comfort and happiness, in turn, leading to success.

I have evaluated the development of Sri Lanka through my research and I find that the country has positive vibes, with the dawn of the New Year. If the government takes a good initiative, it would acquire a good cosmic energy for its future ventures for progress,” Saieram added.

His advices was to consult a Vaastu Consultant when it comes to building a house, factory, establishment or office, before embarking on a construction, as there were many aspects of Vaastu that could be gained from connected lands or properties and landmarks, such as hills, roads, etc. Saieram also advised that these principles be applied for businesses, because if they were followed properly, be it during a recession or a difficult bout of events, it would assist a person to navigate through those problems.

He had also directed his research to many of his clients, who range from several states in India to countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Mexico, for the construction of their businesses in conformity to the Vaastu principles, while many had achieved immense success.

“Where Vaastu principles have been followed, positive energies get attracted during positive times and there would be less negative traits during negative times.

Energies should be balanced onto the correct proportion and one form of energy should not be allowed to overpower the other,” he further added.

Given below a few tips for the New Year:

1. Select a room with an abundance of solar energy to attract good health and knowledge for one's children.

2. Children should face the east or north, while studying.

3. One should face the east, if not the north, when cooking.

4. Place your valuables in the south western corner, but away from a mirror.
