Seminar

A seminar for Shazuliya Muqaddams, Munshiths and Trustees of Zavayas, would be held on January 5 and 6, 2013, at Ummu Zavaya – Colombo, under the auspices of the Council of Shazuliyya Khulafa & Muqaddams – Sri Lanka.

The seminar would begin immediately after Assr prayers on January 05.

The programme would be conducted in unison with the advice and wise counsel of Khalifathus Shazuli Sayyedi Moulavi Al Haj Abdul Hameed (Bahji), where discussions and Muzakaras for the guidance and maintenance of Thariqa. activities will be implemented.


Tipper knocks down woman

A 42-year-old Woman died on the spot when a tipper knocked her down at Kanu Ketiya on the Hanwella-Malwana Road last Saturday morning.

The woman has been identified as A K Kusumawathi working at a garment factory Malwana of Lawulugas Junction.

The tipper had sped away without stopping.

This was revealed at the inquest held into her death by the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths, Dompe, H K Jagath Srilal. The husband of the deceased I K Sarath Chandrasiri Perera (55) and several others gave evidence. The autopsy was conducted by Gampaha Hospital, JMO, Dr Ananda Wijewickrama.

A verdict of accidental death was returned. Dompe Police are investigating.


UFDF is ready to construct houses for landslide victims

Uva Farmers Development Foundation (UFDF) is ready to construct 25 houses for people living in landslide prone areas if government provides lands. R H P Bodhinayake, President, UFDF said the lanslide prone areas are Galabodapatana, Uva Jayagama Yolvertan and Bogahamaditta villages. He said everybody should help the landslide victims because they are downtrodden people. We must help them by fulfilling their basic needs. We are willing to putting up 25 houses for them, Bodhinayaka said.


‘Landslide threat still there’

Although the rain has ceased, the threat of the landslides has not yet lessened. The number of evacuation centres too have increased from 14 to 17 of the District, Disaster Management Centre of Matale Assistant Director Chaminda Amaraweera said.

The Assistant Director said they have received Rs 4 million from the Disaster Management Ministry. “We are providing everything to the displaced people without any problem,” he explained.


Chief Ministers’ Convention in Passara

The 31st Chief Ministers’ convention will be held on January 12 at the Management Development Training Centre at Polgahatenna in Passara.

A media discussion will be held at the end of the convention.
