Sri Lanka’s first ever baseball facility, the Japan- Sri Lanka Friendship Baseball Ground constructed inside the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Homagama was officially declared open yesterday with a unique opening ceremony participated by the Japan Ambassador to Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo, Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane, Parliamentarians Namal Rajapakasa, Lohan Ratwatte, Presidential Secretariat Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath, Former national rugby captain Yoshitha Rajapaksa and many distinguish invitees. Here MP Namal Rajapaksa having a swing at the first pitch thrown by the Ambassador Nobuhito Hobo to mark the opening of new ground. The new baseball ground is a donation by Japan to mark 60 years of bilateral friendship of Japan and Sri Lanka. Bouncer from SLC shatters confidence

With the Sri Lanka cricketers sweating it out assiduously in their endeavour to skin the Australian cricketing Kangaroos in the Boxing Day Test, comes the bouncer that has shattered their confidence. A simple and reasonable request made by Captain Mahela Jayawardene to distribute part of the guarantee fees due to the team for the World Cup Twenty20 to members of the support staff and certain ground staff has been blown out of proportion.

Lennon backs Celtic to grow with Forrest

Neil Lennon says James Forrest is irreplaceable after watching him score on his comeback from a seven-week injury layoff against Ross County on Saturday. The winger scored the fourth in his side's 4-0 win over County after coming on as a second half replacement for Beram Kayal in the 58th minute.

Athletic Standard Test for under 11 and 13 students in Central Province

An Athletic Standard Test for students under 11 and 13 in the Central Province schools were held for long jump, high jump, 75 metres 100 and 200 metres events at the Mahaweli Teachers Training school grounds recently. For this two day programme over 1000 students (girls and boys) from 375 schools in the Central Province participated. This project was organized by the Department of Education, Kandy.
