The unexpected rain killed eight persons, injured a lot, sent 3,771
people to temporary shelters destroyed 142 houses and three bridges but
the same rain taught us how to work in unison, Transport Deputy Minister
Rohana Dissanayake said.
"I am very much thankful to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and
Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera for the tremendous
support given during the catastrophy. Funds were released without any
hindrance.
The Matale GA and the divisional secretaries and their staff members,
the Police, Army and Navy did a marvellous job. The clergy and the
people in the district including the business community gave their
fullest cooperation in providing the services to the people," the
Minister said.
Because of the government's correct fiscal policy we are able to face
this type of unprecedented disasters, he further said.
He also added that the job done by the DMC and NBRI is priceless and
unestimable. |
