Tissa boat tragedy:

Men were drunk, boat was overloaded - Police

Four men from Ingiriya were among the seven who drowned when a boat capsised in the Tissamaharama lake on Saturday evening. The bodies of Sriyantha Peiris, 32, Siridaran Muthukumara, 18, Rasika Chandralal, 26, and K P Asela Niroshan, 20, of Ingiriya and another were found by Navy divers and residents on Saturday.

The other bodies were found yesterday. The tragedy occurred when the boat carrying the men, capsised around 3.40pm on Saturday.

The Police said the boat capsised as it was overloaded. The boat could carry only eight but was overloaded with 22 men, the Police said.

Investigations revealed that the men had not worn life jackets and were under the influence of liquor.
