Minimum age for ID card revised

The Department of Registration of Persons changed the age limit of persons applying for National Identity Cards.

Those who have completed the 15th years of age can apply for national identity cards.

The age limit earlier was 16 years. “Many students faced problems in obtaining their NICs. This move will help overcome them, said Kurunegala District Education Director W M Balasooriya.

He said school heads must work with responsibility when their students have to sit for public examinations. Many complaints are received by the Education Ministry against school principals over the indifference of school heads in obtaining NICs for students.
