Korean employment:
Priority for Eastern youths
The Youths engaged in the fisheries sector in the Eastern Province
will be given preference in selecting workers for employment in Korea,
said Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau chairman Amal Senalankadhikara
at a 'Rataviruwo' seminar in Batticaloa to mark International Day of
Migrants recently.
Senalankadhikara said arrangements have been made to train the
workforce at rural level to suit the international job market through
the 'Rataviru' organization.
Those undergoing such training would be most suitable for jobs in
countries, such as Canada, Australia and Japan.
He said on the initiative of Minister Dilan Perera, a promotional
campaign was being conducted internationally to obtain more foreign jobs
for Sri Lankans. Job avenues would open up in Canada as talks had been
held to sign an MOU with Canada shortly.
A job promotion and welfare programme had also been implemented in
the Middle East through the Jordan Summit.Presidential Advisor and
former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan
appreciated the expansion of welfare activities for Sri Lankan
expatriate workers granted by the government.
Youths from Batticaloa seeking foreign employment would be of great
assistance towards the development of the region in an indirect manner,
he said.
Provincial Council Member Prasannam was also present.
