Illangakoon heads Kandy Garden Club

Kandy Garden Club, the oldest functioning members only club in Sri
Lanka, which take pride in having most number of Tennis courts outside
Colombo, recently held its 134th Annual General Meeting. Rear Admiral
Lakshman T B Illangakoon was elected president for the third consecutive
year. Dr Chaminda Ekanayake, Samantha Uduwela and S Srikanthan were
elected respectively for the posts of Vice President, General Secretary
and Treasurer.

Kandy Garden Club, located at the end of the historical Kandy lake,
conducts All Island Open Ranking Tennis tournament every year and has
two Billiard tables, Table Tennis and one of the best stocked bar in the
town.
Club membership, which is always maintained below 200 reads like
who's who of the professionals and businessmen in Kandy.
President elect, Rear Admiral Lakshman Illangakoon, product of
Dharmaraja College, Kandy, himself a keen Tennis player, played Rugby
for Dharmaraja College, captained Wrestling team at Sri Jayawardhanapura
University and represented Sri Lanka Navy in Tennis, Table Tennis and
practical Pistol Shooting. Incidentally he was the open doubles champion
in the Sri Lanka Navy Tennis Tournament this year and also veteran
doubles champion in this year's Defence Service Tennis.
Executive committee of the club, comprising of 12 members, were also
elected at the Annual General Meeting.
