Manju in National final once again

Former Asian Games and Commonwealth Games boxer Manju Wanniarachchi won his bout with ease to reach the finds of the Bantam Weight 56 kilogramme on the fourth day of the National Boxing Championship organized by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and sponsored by MAS Holdings and worked off at the Linea Clothing gymnasium at BOI, Pallekele last night.

Manju Wanniarachchi met the current National Champion Gayan Jayaweera in what turned out to be a neo contest with Jayaweera retiring early in the second.

The finals will be worked at the Kandy City Centre Roof Top commencing at 2 p.m. The Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The results of the semi-finals:

Women's Fly Wt. 48 kg – J.A.D. Jayasinghe (MAS B) beat Sada Sandakelum (Police) referee stopped contest round 2.

Women's Fly Wt. 48 kg – Nilmini Kosala (MAS A) beat W.H.M.S.L. Herath (Army B) referee stopped contest round 2.

Women's Bantam Weight 54 kg – Vidushika Prabodi (MAS A) beat S. Shanthika (Police) on points 21/3.

Women's Bantam Wt. 54 kg – T.L.D.M. Abeywardena (Thuru) beat I.D.L. Madushika (SLNA) on points 19/6.

Women's Light Fly Wt. 60 kg – L. Udayangani (MAS B) beat Kanchana Lalani (MAS C) referee stopped contest round 1.

Women's Light Wt. 60 kg – Niranjala Senanayake (MAS A) beat L.R.K. Ayoma (Thuru) on points 29/4.

Men's Heavy Wt. 91 kg – B.N.S. Sampath (SLN A) beat A.M.H. Abeysinghe (Slimline A) referee stopped contest round one.

Men's Heavy Wt. 91 kg – H.M.R.C. Herath (Army A) beat G.S. Edirisinghe (Army B) loser retired round one.

Men's Light Fly Weight 48-49 kg – M. Prabaswara (Linea) beat W.A.C.I. Perera (Army A) on points 11/10.
