Gang posing as policemen rob house

A six member gang which entered a businessman's house in Ethabendunuwewa by pretending to be Policemen looking for a hidden Buddha statue unearthed by treasure hunters had escaped with Rs 489,000 cash by tying and gagging the inmates with plasters after threatening them by brandishing a pistol and a hand grenade.

The inmates had later informed neighbours about the robbery through a short message and they had come and released them after breaking open the doors which had been locked by the gang before escaping.

Investigations are continuing.
