Search continues for Kavindi

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry yesterday
said they have requested assistance from neighbouring countries, cargo
ships and fishing vessels in the seas to locate the fishing vessel
Kavindi. Kavindi left the Mirissa Fisheries Harbour with four fishermen
on September 5. It communicated with land till November 29.
According to the Investigation Unit of the Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources Development Department the link had broken down from December
3.
The Fisheries Department informed the Navy and trade vessels.
The Foreign Ministry informed Andaman and Nicobar islands in India
about the missing vessel and they have requested support to locate the
fishermen. A Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry
spokesman said they hope to receive information about the fishermen and
the trawler within the next few days.
