Search continues for Kavindi

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry yesterday said they have requested assistance from neighbouring countries, cargo ships and fishing vessels in the seas to locate the fishing vessel Kavindi. Kavindi left the Mirissa Fisheries Harbour with four fishermen on September 5. It communicated with land till November 29.

According to the Investigation Unit of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Department the link had broken down from December 3.

The Fisheries Department informed the Navy and trade vessels.

The Foreign Ministry informed Andaman and Nicobar islands in India about the missing vessel and they have requested support to locate the fishermen. A Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry spokesman said they hope to receive information about the fishermen and the trawler within the next few days.
