Robert Rupasinghe Bodybuilding C'ship at Matara
Late Robert Rupasinghe Memorial Bodybuilding Championship will be
held at the Matara Cooperative House on December 15 from 4.00p.m. under
the patronage of chief guests Youth Services and Skills Development
Minister Dallas Alahapperuma and Parliamentarian Achala Jagoda.
The semi finals will be held on the same day at 9a.m.
The championship is being worked off for the sixth time under the
supervision of Sri Lanka Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation .
Robert Rupasinghe was born in Wadduwa in 1947 and studied at Wadduwa
Central College before he joined the Sri Lankan Air-Force. He was a
champion track and field athlete and held the pole vault record of the
Public Schools Athletic Meet and many more meets.
Taking up body building in 1967 winning Mr Kalutara Title he became
the National champion in 1969 and continued to win it three more
occasions continuously. He became runner up to the Malaysian champion at
the Asian Championships and became the first Srilankan Ever to win a
place in an International Meet.
Along with his advisor Thillekeratne he started the Wadduwa Barbell
Club for the youth of Wadduwa that produced many national champions. For
