A fire broke out at an eatery on Bastian Mawatha near the Fort
Railway station at about 12.50 pm yesterday. A kitchen worker at the
eatery said the blaze started following a gas leak.

about an hour. Fire fighters said they received a call from the Fort
police station at 12.53pm.
Fire Station Officer Wijesuriya said they doused the fire before it
spread to other shops in the area.
"It spread to an adjacent fruit stall," he said. "no injuries were
reported," Wijesuriya said.
"The 200 square foot eatery and the fruit stall were damaged," he
said."The blaze did not affect other shops because we put it out in a
short time," he added. |
