IPM plays significant role in HRM
The Institute of Personnel Management (IPM), as the only professional
body in Human Resource Development in Sri Lanka, plays a significant and
expanding role in the field of HRM.
With any prominent professional body facing an evolving industry in a
fast-paced and globalizing world, the IPM also has a new strategic
direction. One of the main aspects of IPM's new direction is Membership
Development and the Chairman Membership Development Committee, Rohitha
Amarapala, discusses how the IPM intends to increase its membership base
and how privileged the IPM members are.
Rohitha Amarapala |
According to Amarapala, membership at the IPM, and as with any
professional body, is a win-win situation for the members as well as the
institute; members become part of a professional fraternity and the IPM
enhances its vibrant quality through the involvement of a membership
body which includes the best HRM practitioners in Sri Lanka.
Amarapala further explained that since the year 2000 the IPM has
expanded significantly and in keeping-up with the evolving trends of the
industry as well as the globalized world, the institution has expanded
its study programs and has introduced new modules and knowledge sharing
sessions providing members as well as students with essential knowledge
and training in the industry.
However the institute's membership has not expanded on a par with the
services provided. And in this view the Membership Development Committee
has introduced a five-approach strategy to encourage new members to join
the fraternity.
These approaches are, direct member cadre development, professional
development initiatives which includes guest lecturers conducted by
prominent speakers in the business world, networking opportunities and
entertainment facilities at the IPM members' lounge, social events and
entertainment activities, special benefits and services for members etc.
Of course, apart from these benefits, members of the IPM are
recognized as HRM professionals all over the world, and they also get to
be part of an elite group of professionals who are affiliated to the
prestigious World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA)
and the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) |
