The National Green Awards 2012 organized by the Central Environment
Authority was held at the BMICH recently for the second consecutive
year.
President Mahinda Rajapakse, the chief guest at the event presented
the ten gold awards to the recipients. The President appreciating the
winners, said the award winning companies must be encouraged and
protected as they really have contributed to the objective of creating a
base for sustainable development. The CEA initiated the National Green
Award scheme with a view to recognizing and rewarding industries and
service sector organizations which have demonstrated good environmental
performance.
The total number of awards were seven Gold, twelve Silver, eighteen
Bronze and twelve Merit Awards. The seven Gold winners were Herittance
Ahungalla, Maas Intimate Turuli Fabric Park, Thulhiriya Nion Lanka Pvt
Ltd Biyagama, Textile Processing Plant, Richmond College Galle,
Dhammulgoda Primary School and Sadaharitha Plantation Ltd.
General Manager, Geo Cycle Holcim Lanka Asela Iddawela received the
Gold Award for Waste Recycling Sector at the event. Minister of
Environment Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Deputy Minister Abdul Cader
were also present at the award presentation ceremony. Former Chairman
CEA Charitha Ratwatte, received a special award for his commitment
towards the objective.
