Body exhumed after three months

The body of a fisherman was exhumed three months after his death, following a complaint lodged by his mother.

The man's body was found at Karupane beach three months ago.

The deceased's mother said her son's death was suspicious.

The incident occurred on July 26 when M M Imran, 19, of Jayabima went fishing in a boat with another fisherman named W Sathyaseelan of Deduru Oya.

Sathyaseelan returned the next day without Imran and told his parents that his friend fell into the sea when the boat capsized.

The deceased's mother lodged a complaint at Chilaw Police on August 19 stating that she was suspicious of her son's death.

Police reported the case to the Chilaw magistrate who ordered the body to be exhumed for a post - mortem.


Girl's body found

Welikada Police found the body of a girl in a waste water canal near Thuduwa playground in Obeysekarapura on Tuesday following a tip-off.

The badly decomposed body was sent to the Colombo National Hospital morgue.

The victim, between eight and 12 years, was attired in a black T shirt and blue and white shorts.

She was also wearing ear rings with red stones and a talisman.


Suspect arrested with pistol

The Terrorist Investigation Department (TID) yesterday seized a micro pistol, six bullets and a magazine following information by a suspect whom the TID arrested a few days ago.

The suspect, a resident of Weliweriya is being questioned under detention.


Probe into man's death

Rideegama Police launched an investigation into the death of a 26 - year - old man in Keppetipola following a complaint by a doctor at the OPD section of Gonigoda Hospital. The man was pronounced dead on admission to Gonigoda Hospital.


House maid arrested for theft

A house maid who allegedly stole jewellery worth Rs 265,000 from a house in Wennappuwa was arrested by Wennappuwa Police on Wednesday.

The suspect who was interrogated revealed that she had pawned the stolen jewellery. She was produced before the Marawila magistrate yesterday.


Child dies in accident

A three - year - old boy in Bandagiriya hit by a van on Wednesday, succumbed to his injuries at Hambantota Hospital. The victim was identified as M Rizly of Malya Kolani, Bandagiriya. The Police arrested the van driver. He was produced before the Hambantota magistrate yesterday.
