Chandrasena to tackle human-elephant conflict
Ministry has drawn attention to maintaining electric

Chandrasena visited Dambaana and Rohana in Mahiyanganaya to look into
the wild elephant-human conflict.
He discussed with residents and Wildlife Conservation Department
officials from the Maaduruoya National Park and WCD offices in
Gurukumbura, Galkada and Ulhitiya.
Chandrasena directed officials to work harder and promised that his
ministry will co-operate with the public and officials to effectively
manage the wild elephant-human conflict.
He said the Agrarian Services and Wildlife Conservation Ministry has
drawn attention to maintaining electric fences bordering forests and
villages, built to prevent wild elephants reaching villages.
The ministry has also decided to grow grass and build reservoirs in
national parks and forest reserves, the deputy minister said. Badulla
district Member of Parliament TenukaVidanagamage and Veddha Chieftain
Uruvarige Wanniya were also present.
