Fractious undergrads send 11 to hospital

Eleven undergraduates of the Medical Faculty of the Ruhunu University were admitted to Karapitiya Teaching hospital with injuries caused in a clash between two politically opponent groups of the campus.

The fight among medical students armed with clubs and other attack gadgets had continued for some time within the campus premises forcing the university authorities to summon the Police. Police investigations revealed that the clash began on Tuesday as a result of a political dispute between the members of Janatha Vimukthi Perumuna and its breakaway faction Frontline Socialist Party.

Karapitiya Teaching Hospital director Dr. Shelton Perera said the conditions of the hospitalized medical students were not serious and they would be discharge soon. Poddala Police are investigating.
