First ever GI Pipe plant by LANWA in Athurugiriya

The Ceylon Steel Corporation Ltd (CSCL) will set up the country’s
first ever steel village in Athurugiriya in the near future creating a
number of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the people in
the country, the company’s Business Development Manager Sanath Niroshan
told Daily News Business .

He said the company completed the Rs 10 billion investment over the
last three years in four stages namely on a latest high tech rolling and
wire mill, steel foundry and GI Pipes manufacturing plant. The company
is now moving forward to set up the steel village, where all types of
steel products could be made available under one roof. He said the
company expected to save more than Rs 500 million worth of foreign
exchange annually for the country which was spent only to import GI
Pipes mostly required for the SME sector.
This target has been already achieved while giving high quality
product of international standards to fcustomers. The CSCL is the only
place that casting of stainless steel could be done.
“Being the pioneer we have introduced the LANWA GI Pipe. This is an
example where we challenge international quality standards through
introducing pioneering technology. The all new LANWA GI Pipe further
enables our nation’s talented constructors, engineers, steel workers,
welders to fabricators from all walks of life and building an
entrepreneurial community enhancing our people’s livelihood and our
nation’s economy as a result,” Sanath Niroshan said.
He said the company expected to save more than Rs 4 billion worth of
foreign exchange annually for the country which was spent only to import
GI Pipes mostly required for the SME sector. This target has been
already achieved while giving high quality products of international
standards to customers.
