Army edge out Wattala BC in extra time

The Sri Lanka Army scored a wafer thin 79 points to 78 win over Wattala Basketball Club in extra time after the scores read 74 all at full time in their Carlton Cup Basketball match played at Henry Pedris Courts yesterday after trailing 33 - 45 at half time.

The match winner for Army was Buddhika Gayan who scored a three pointer in the last three seconds of extra time to give the soldiers a thrilling win. McCullum Fernando was the highest scorer for Army with 17 points and played a key role in their success.

Dilan Perera with 24 points gave a lion hearted display to keep Wattala BC in the game even during extra time and was well supported by Naveed Halaldeen who also made a fine contribution of 16 points.

Wattala Basketball Club made a steady start in the first quarter . The lads from Wattala team made a strong challenge to their counterparts by reducing their chances of scoring points with a good man to man defence and counter attacks.It was Wattala who attacked their opponents and at the end of the first quarter led by 20 points to 15.

In the second quarter Wattala Lads continued their dominance over the gallant soldiers and went on to lead by 45 points to 33 at Halftime.
