Welikada escapee arrested

Ruwanwella Police yesterday afternoon arrested an inmate of the Welikada prison who had escaped during Friday’s riot. He was hiding in a house in Kanangama, Dehiowita when the Police arrested him.

The escapee, Hewa Battage Thushan Sarada alias Channa had calmly walked out of the prison amidst the chaos while pretending to take an injured jailor to safety. The suspect, a resident of Madiwela, Kotte had been serving a term in connection with a murder that occurred in Mirihana in April, 2007.
