The Asian Netball runners up 2012 - Sri Lanka will take part in the
Nations Cup in Singapore with the service of a new head coach, Yasa
Ramachandra, the Sports Ministry Media sources said. Tamara Paragoda
Liyanage has been appointed as the Assistant Coach while Dr. Shiromy
Pilapitiya has been appointed as the Team Manager. The tournament will
be held from December 2 - 8 at Toa-Payoh Sport Hall, Singapore with the
participation of six teams including Tanzania, Malaysia, Namibia,
Republic of Ireland, 2012 Asian Champions Singapore and runners up Sri
Lanka.
The selection committee for the tournament has also been newly
appointed. The committee headed by Chandrani Pathiraja , Lakmini
Samarasinghe, Sandya Jayasuriya, Sunimal Karubalapitiya and Priyantha
Virginie Peiris, will select the national team on November 10 from a
pool of 22 players at St Joseph's College indoor stadium. The medical
and skills tests will be held on November 9 at the sports ministry. At
the selections there will be matches against to opponents that will help
the players to perform on a match condition.
The team will leave for Singapore on December 30. The coaches and the
selected team will have to work on a busy and tight schedule in the pre
match training sessions here in Sri Lanka, due to time constraints.
Hosts Singapore will try thier best to retain their pride gained when
they won the Asina Championship here in August while the runner up Sri
Lanka would be looking for the revenge.
