President firm PSC forum decides fate of 13A
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is firm that the final decision on
whether or not to repeal the 13th Amendment should be made by the
Parliamentary Select Committee, UPFA National List MP A. H. M. Azwer
said.
He further said that the TNA has taken the 13th Amendment to courts
and the representation made by the TNA in India had made this issue
difficult to resolve. In addition to this situation political parties
which constitute the UPFA also make individually different opinions and
aggravate this situation. Azwer further said that all political parties
should participate in the Parliamentary Select Committee and take a firm
decision to resolve this issue. He said TNA leader R. Sambanthan
expresses different views at various places and delays the TNA
participation at the Parliamentary Select Committee.
“We should consider this tactic as an attempt to create a federal
administrative system on the sly,” Azwer added. “Therefore, I appeal to
the TNA not to adopt delaying tactics and immediately participate in the
Parliamentary Select Committee. Not only TNA all other parties also
should come to the Parliamentary Select Committee and express
constructive views thorough which the Parliament can take a firm
decision. This is the view and the intention of the President as well.
Azwer further said that the leader of the Opposition Ranil
Wickremesinghe has already stated that he would discuss with the TNA in
order to make them participate in the PSC.
“Wickremesinghe should meet them without delay and bring them to the
Parliamentary Select Committee. By doing this Ranil Wickremesinghe can
serve the country, Azwer added.
