Illegal timber felling on the increase

Illegally felling of Kumbuk trees in the Kurunegala district is on the increase, Wayamba Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe said.

He said so presiding over the Kurunegala Coordinating Committee Meeting held at the District Secretariat. The chief minister said that nearly 40 Kumbuk trees have been felled in Polpitigama and Panduwasnuwara areas during the last few months. Forest officers have not taken any action against this. He said he will inform the matter to Deputy Inspector General of Wayamba, Asoka Wijetillake to take action against illegal timber fellers.
