Notice issued on UCPF Secretary

Colombo district judge R A Ranaraja yesterday issued notice on Up Country People's Front (UCPF) leader and Secretary sequel to a plaint filed by a member of the UCPF and a Provincial Council member against his expulsion from the party membership. The notice is returnable on November 8.

The plaintiff is Provincial Council member Kalyana Kumar.

The defendants cited are Shanthini Chandrasekaran, a resident of Rajagiriya and A Lorensz, Secretary and returning officer, Nuwara Eliya district.

Kadiravelu Kalyana Kumar, a resident of Thalawakelle alleged that he had being expelled from the UCPF based on unsubstantiated allegations that he violated the party constitution by obtaining the membership of the National Labour Federation while being a UCPF member.

Kumar alleged that the allegations are both false and malicious.

He prayed for an enjoining order to prevent his expulsion from the UCPF and to grant cost and whatever relief the court may deem suitable. Attorney at law Faizer Musthapha appeared for the plaintiff.
