The products are introduced to the country by Ayne-Marie Leitch, a
well known professional model of her time. She was the runner up in a
Miss Sri Lanka beauty pageant in the 80’s and was also national champion
in Ballroom and Latin American dancing. Having spend many years in the
Gulf she is back in Sri Lanka to open a new chapter in the fashion and
glamour scene with ‘Desert Diamonds – What Women Want’.
The concept roots from Saudi Arabia and is the brainchild of Sally
Cowley. Superior quality diamond simulants, natural or artificial
diamond-like material marketed as a look-alike for a natural diamond,
are used in designing these items. They are the highest grade diamond
simulants available in the market. The techniques and care used in
making these items ensures the cut, luster, brilliance and longevity of
the stones. The diamond simulants are rated 8.5 on the MOHS scale of
hardness compared to a diamond which, with a rating of 10, is the
hardest natural substance.
“The sparkle lasts forever in the items if you handle them with
proper care. The stones will not discolour, become brittle or crack with
age. We upgrade our customers on basic care tips in handling the
jewellery after each purchase,” Ayne-Marie explained adding that the
products are available through sparkler parties and local events. |
