MEP wants to Abolish 13th Amendment

The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna in a press release issued yesterday has called for the abolition of the 13th Amendment to the constitution which has set up the Provincial Council system which has proved to be a white elephant. The release said the MEP had opposed the 13th Amendment from inception and explained the administrative complexities and degeneration causes in the Education and Health sectors by the Provincial Councils created by it.

"If PCs are abolished and those funds are provided for local government institutions, it will be a major factor towards development of the country and the uplift of the living standards of the people."

The PC system is also a threat to the country's territorial indignity and it should be scrapped without delay, the release said.
