Negligent driver ordered to pay compensation

A private bus driver who pleaded guilty in an accident case was fined Rs.5,000 and ordered to pay Rs. 30,000 as compensation by Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Kavindra Nanayakkara, for causing injuries to a schoolboy of Mawathagama.

The bus driver was found guilty of driving in a rash and negligent manner, knocking down the school boy on April 9, 2009. The lawyer representing the boy told court that his client was unable to walk properly after the accident and moved that the accused pay Rs. 50,000 as compensation. Kurunegala Police prosecuted.
