GL discusses Commonwealth Summit with Bangladesh FM
External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris had discussions with
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni on the sidelines of the Asia
Co-operation Dialogue Summit in Kuwait City.

Dr. Moni, in her capacity as Chair of the Commonwealth Ministerial
Action Group, discussed with Prof. Peiris arrangements for the
Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting which will be held in Colombo
next year.
Minister Peiris briefed her in detail about the work currently under
way, with responsibility assigned to different committees in charge of a
variety of functions, as well as about the thematic content of the
discussions which will take place at the plenary sessions, and other
events including the Youth Forum and the People’s Forum.
The two ministers also discussed plans for the Commonwealth Business
Council which will be held in Colombo to coincide with the Commonwealth
Summit. Prof. Peiris informed his counterpart in the Government of
Bangladesh about the recent visit to Sri Lanka by Chairman of the
Commonwealth Business Council Dr. Mohan Kaul and the extensive
networking being done with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Sri
Lanka. The Commonwealth Business initiative in Sri Lanka was launched by
President Mahinda Rajapaksa last week.
